Mr. Duey

In a graduate class at Hood College this past summer I met a young lady who introduced me to teachertube.com.  Evidently the site has been around since March of 2007, who knew!  This is a site which resembles youtube in nature, look, and function (am wondering how that happened with no repercussions) but focuses on compiling videos that enhance teaching.

Well anyways, she showed me a video of a math teacher rapping about fractions, his name is Mr. Duey, and boy is it funny.  Check out the video of Mr. Duey rapping about fractions.

Upon further investigation of Mr. Duey, through the url at the end of the video, it seems he had a long history of writing and performing raps through high school and college, signed with a small label, but didn’t work out.  Upon completion of his education degree he began teaching Middle School students where he began to incorporate his rapping into his lessons.  It seems he’s still teaching middle school and has produced a couple educational related albums.  Kudos to him!

Going from laughing to his video to reading his website I have a respect for him because he took something he is passionate about and using it made his students more interested.  And I can relate.

What are people saying?

Wow, Hood College! That’s where my brother graduated from.

I’m going to watch the video when I get home, it sounds good.
